Onan Consumer Group announces the release of the latest member of the Energy Command family of generator controls, the EC-15W. The EC-15W is a wireless generator start and stop control which links directly to the remote wiring harness on RV and Commercial Mobile gensets. The remote is digitally keyed so it won’t start other generators and has an effective range up to 100’ depending on installation and obstructions.
Additional remotes can be added so that up to 4 remotes can work with the same receiver. The EC-15W is compatible with all current generation Onan RV and Commercial Mobile petrol and diesel gensets. (Generally those produced from 2000 and later.)
The EC-15W kit consists of a receiver box, one wireless key fob, and an installation/users manual. The EC-15W is designed to be installed by the genset owner in an aftermarket application. The receiver box connects to B+ on the genset for power and then plugs into the remote wire harness. The box is then mounted by double sided tape or screws in the genset compartment. The wireless remote operates the same as the current wired start/stop switch. Push and hold start to start the genset; push and release stop to stop the genset. Holding down stop will prime the genset. When using the EC-15W in conjunction with wired remote switches, an optional y harness must be purchased to allow both to work. There are multiple y harness options depending on the generator series used.
The EC-15W is the first of a family of wireless controls for the Onan generator family. The low price and easy installation mark the EC-15W as Onan’s first product designed expressly for the aftermarket. With over 1,000,000 compatible Onan gensets on the road, there is a large potential market for this product. Initial consumer feedback from field trials has been extremely positive with consumers highlighting the benefit of turning the generator on/off from the bedroom without having to get up. Key commercial applications include bucket trucks and other worksites where the user is working away from the vehicle.
